What is socialization?

Socialization is the process by which puppies learn the skills needed to mature into normal adult dogs. Proper puppy socialization allows puppies to learn how to explore and become accustomed to their surroundings, and it also allows them to learn how to get along with littermates, puppies from outside their litters, older dogs, other animal species and people. Only through proper socialization can puppies become loving, confident and trainable pets.

Why is Hair or Fur Important to Dog Health and Well-Being?

• It protects the skin from chemicals, bacteria, and physical injury. It also helps regulate body temperature:
• Coat glossiness reflects sunlight to aid in cooling.
• It also acts as a barrier to block wind, rain, and snow to aid in warming.
• Color, length, and density can help retain or dissipate heat.

Hair mats are commonly found under the collar, behind the ears, and in the armpits—areas where there is rubbing

Matted Hair May:

• Be painful
• Cause skin irritation
• Hide foreign bodies, such as ingrown collars
• Hide tumors, injuries, or other skin disease
• Trap foreign material such as leaves, twigs, mud, urine, or feces
• Interfere with vision, hearing, and chewing
• Interfere with urination and defecation
• Interfere with normal movement
• Interfere with temperature regulation, both cooling and warming

Congregate Household Pet Shelters – Any private or public facility that provides refuge to rescued household pets and the household pets of shelterees in response to a declared major disaster or emergency.

Service Animal – Any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals with impaired hearing to intruders or sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items.

When travelling with your pet(s), there may be animal health requirements specific for that destination. As soon as you know your travel details, contact your local veterinarian to assist with the pet travel process. Factors to consider may include meeting time frames for obtaining a health certificate, updating vaccinations, diagnostic testing, or administration of medications/ treatments.

SUMMARY:
- Adult Akita Inu dogs can be aggressive toward other animals, especially representatives of their own breed. As a result, they can suddenly attack other dogs, ignoring any size difference.
- Dalmatians are big, extremely strong, and overactive. Even if your dog is socialized and used to children's attention, you should closely watch its interactions with kids. Don't leave them alone even for a minute.
- The Russian Toy is a gentle and very loyal dog. But you should remember that it has a truly sensitive nature. If there are active kids in your family, this dog will be constantly stressed.
- Dobermans are exceptionally good hunters with perfect obedience skills. But it’ll take a lot of training to make the dog remember that your kids are masters just as you are and that they need not only protection but also respect.
- A Husky is a strong, big, playful dog and can express its emotions by jumping at a kid. This may hurt or scare a young child, so you’ll need to teach the dog to show its feelings in the proper way.
- Basenjis are unstoppably curious and highly intelligent. As a result, they are prone to disobedience.
- The Alabai looks like a fluffy white bear. This is an exceptionally strong and big dog. The dogs of this breed make perfect protectors, but, at the same time, they tend to dominate.
- The Chihuahua is considered to be the smallest breed. These dogs are usually aware of their fragility, and that’s why they don't particularly trust children. A small kid can perceive this dog more like a toy than a living being.
- The most prominent feature of any Pekingese is its self-centeredness. Most Pekingeses dislike children who make too much noise and try to touch or cuddle them.
- Young Corgis can easily become aggressive after they have tested their boundaries and realized that they can get away with a lot. This is especially true for male dogs.

SUMMARY:
- While plastic bowls are inexpensive and convenient, they’re not the best for your pet’s health. Both cats and dogs can develop different allergic reactions to plastic. On top of that, some dogs like to chew on their bowl, which means they risk ingesting pieces of plastic.
- Dogs can develop serious health issues if you let them have avocados, garlic, raisins, chocolate, mushrooms, peaches, or grapes. Most of these products are just as toxic for cats too.
- If your cat or dog gets treats too often, they’ll lose their appetite for their everyday nutritious meals. This can result in pet obesity.
- Just like people, dogs and cats should be fed according to their age and lifestyle. Younger animals need to eat more often than older ones since they need more nutrients for proper growth.
- Dogs especially can't control how much they eat when they see food. Their instincts will scream at them to gobble up everything they find on their plate. This problem is less prominent in felines.
- Surprisingly, there are those who feed dog food to their cats and vice versa. Interchanging pet foods will lead to serious health complications.
- Pets, especially dogs, love bones. At the same time, this doesn't mean that you should feed bones to them. It doesn't matter if these bones are from pork, poultry, fish, or beef.
- Tuna can be used as a treat every now and then. But if you turn it into your cat's everyday diet, this will cause malnutrition. What’s worse, a tuna diet may lead to mercury poisoning.
- Believe it or not, neither cats nor dogs should be given milk. If, for whatever reason, you have to bottle-feed a newborn pet, you should buy a special formula for puppies and kitties. Cow milk isn't a good substitute for their mom’s milk.

- Do not try to calm the dog down or smile at it. Animals perceive a smile differently than you do. While a smile means friendly intentions to a human, a dog will think that you're baring your teeth to challenge it.
- Avoid direct eye contact and sudden movements. The best strategy will be to ignore the dog.
- Do not swing a stick at the dog or use pepper spray. First of all, the wind can spoil your plans and blow the spray right into your own eyes. Besides, these actions probably won't scare the dog away.
- Retreat slowly and carefully. Remember the main rule of getting away from an aggressive dog: do not turn your back to the animal.
- Stray dogs usually attack if they're hungry or if they're protecting their puppies or territory.
- Do not shout at the dog, even if you can’t think of anything else to do. The dog will perceive shouting as a sign of aggression, and this will only make the animal angrier.

- If you haven't managed to distract the dog and it's still after you, cover your neck with your hands. The neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of the human body.

- If a dog has bitten you, carefully rinse the wound with soap and water. After that, swab it with alcohol to avoid infection.
- Despite what most people think, it doesn't matter whether you've been bitten by a stray dog or a domesticated one. Either way, you’ll still have to go to the hospital for necessary testing and treatment.
- According to statistics, dogs are responsible for 99% of rabies infections in people. The first symptoms of the disease appear 30 to 50 days after being infected.

How to Choose the Perfect Dog Breed Just for You


Professional dog trainers suggest that everyone tends to be happy when a dog's needs match their lifestyle.
Here is a complete ...guide to choose the perfect dog breed based on your lifestyle and personality.

Family Dog
When you need a family dog, don’t think much, Labrador and Golden retriever are the best options. For one thing, they love children, and at any given time, they are ready to play. If you need something smaller, you can go for a beagle, the same characteristic but relatively smaller.


Guard Dog
Rottweilers, German Sheppard, and Doberman Pinschers will fit perfectly for guarding your house. These breeds of dogs are natural guard dogs;

Retrievers aren’t a good fit though. They are just too playful and friendly. They will joyfully welcome thieves and play with them wagging their tails instead of attacking them.

Athletic Dog
Do you love the morning run? Then you should consider getting a Pointer or a Setter; they are naturally built for running. If you want a smaller companion, you can explore Jack Russel Terrier which is also fit for the morning run.
English bulldogs, Pugs or Large Stocky dogs won’t be a good fit though because they can’t run fast. In fact, overexercising them may damage their ribs.

Non-shedding Dogs
All dogs shed. It’s just a fact. For many dog owners, this shedding is a concern.
Labradoodle and Maltese Terrier are known to shed less than many other dog breeds. On the other hand, German Sheperd, Labrador Retriever and Husky are very heavy shedders.



Dogs breeds for busy singles
One of the most popular social animals are dogs. But some breeds are more fit for the home alone life. . If you are a busy single who won’t be spending much time at home, you may consider getting a Shar Pei or a Basset Hound.
On the other hand, Retrievers and Collies are not a good fit as these types of breeds prefer and require constant socializing.


Dogs for seniors
if retired, getting a Boston Terrier, Pug, or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the right option for you. They don’t require several hours of exercise, and they are very playful and highly affectionate.
You probably won’t find a good fit in large dogs though because they are very active and always busy. They need a lot of attention and exercise, which may not fit into your schedule.


Hypoallergenic Dog
That you are allergic to dog’s hair does not mean you can’t have a dog. Dander that is attached to pet hair is one of the common cause of allergies. Schnauzer is an excellent choice since they produce less dander than other dog breeds.
You can also get a poodle, and other designers crossbred with poodles like labradoodle, or spoodle.
On the other hand, German Shepherds or Long hair breeds have dry skin, they can easily build up a lot of dander.




Lap Dog
Do you need a cuddle buddy? These types of dogs are comfortable resting on the couch with you when you are reading, watching movies, or relaxing. Your options include French bulldog or a Maltese; they are very friendly.
Any working breed won’t be a good fit though as they often require exercise.
Dogs for Apartments
For these class of dogs, what matters is not their size or shape, but their temperament. The size does not mean it will love staying in an apartment. For these types of breed, getting a Yorkshire Terrier or Bulldog is a good option.
If you like Chihuahuas , you should think twice here. Although Chihuahuas are very small and tiny, they are incredibly active and can be too much trouble for the apartment.
Dogs for Multi-Pet Households
If you already have pets like cats at home, choosing a breed of dog carefully is essential if you don't want the Pet World War in your house. Retrievers, Collies, and Spaniel, won't mind sharing the home with other breeds; they love to have company.

However, Terriers or Fighter Dogs are very competitive and it makes them the wrong option.
Dog Tolerating Hot Weather
That most of us love summer does not mean all dog breeds will agree with our choice. It is surprising to know that even short-haired breed of dogs will struggle in tropical climates. For these breeds, their facial structure and size matter, not their coat alone. Terriers are the best option, and they come in different sizes.

At the same time, St. Bernards, Samoyeds, and Boxers are just too uncomfortable in hot weather.

Dog Tolerating Cold Weather
Your option includes Malamute, Husky, or Samoyeds.
Dobermans are not a right choice for cold weather though. they hate cold more than anything since they have short coats.
Dog for Newbie
If you are starting with dogs, it is safe to begin with a Labrador, Border Collie, or a poodle. They are very intelligent and straightforward to train even by newbie.
On the other hand, Terrier or Schnauzer require more patience and can be very stubborn.
